Noah's Ark - PAU Andalucía 2005

Noah's ArkMount Ararat, perhaps the biblical resting place of Noah's ark, attracts many curious explorers. Few are allowed to scale the mountain's heights, however, as it lies in a Turkish military zone. Even if the ark existed, some archaeologists argue, it is unlikely that the wood from the boat would still be preserved today, thousands of years later: moving ice is likely to have swept away any wooden structure.
Explorers have long searched for the ark on the Turkish mountain. In April businessman Peter Jones announced a planned summer expedition to Mount Ararat. The project, he said, would prove that the legendary Noah's ark was buried there. The announcement received generous news coverage. But the U.S. $800,000 expedition quickly ran into problems: the Turkish government refused to grant the explorers permission to climb the mountain.
At a news conference, Jones presented satellite images, which, he claimed, show Noah's ark hidden in
the ice some 4,570 metres up the mountain. Most experts, however, were sceptical. The object in the images could easily be a rock formation, they said, adding that some of the photos were non-scientific and unclear. Some archaeologists charge that “Noah's-ark expeditions are a waste of time and money—all of which could be put to much better use by supporting existing excavations around the world.”
